Are you worthy to enter Valhalla? You have been sent to Valheim, the 10th Norse world. Only by defeating the mighty beasts of these lands will you earn the favor of the gods. This quest will take you to the edge of this world, from the deepest forest to the highest mountain peak.

Valheim is an open world exploration survival game set in a vast procedurally generated purgatory inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture. Players are tasked with reclaiming the kingdom from Odin’s ancient enemies, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armor, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons and gaining favor gods.

Valheim is a game about exploring a huge fantasy world inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture. You begin your adventure in the relatively peaceful center of Valheim. The further you get from the center, the more difficult the world becomes. But you’ll also find more valuable materials that you can use to craft deadlier weapons and sturdier armor. You will also build your own Viking fortresses and outposts around the world. Eventually, you’ll build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands…but beware of sailing too far…

Valheim is a massive procedurally generated world, inviting players to explore lush forests, snow-capped mountain ranges, and mystical grasslands, all presented in stunning Lo-Fi graphics. Valheim features a dodging and blocking based combat system with a wide range of weapons for immortal vikings to battle overriding bosses of myth and legend. The Viking Adventure is playable solo or with up to nine friends because no one wants to face death alone repeatedly. Between deaths, Valheim offers a flexible home and base building system, intuitive item crafting and ship building, and dedicated servers.

Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio are excited to announce the launch of a new Valheim update that will give adventurers an even colder welcome to the harsh mountain biome.

The Mountain Update expands Valheim’s snowy biome and adds all-new instanced dungeons called frost cavessimilar to the Funeral chambers found in the Black Forest and Sunken Crypts located in the marshes. The Frost Caves offer three new enemies, with new resources to gather and new materials needed to craft a new set of armor and weapons.

Only the bravest Vikings can venture into the quiet shadows that lurk within these caves to uncover the ancient evil that crawls the night and plunder its treasures. Do you hear that? Is it… a ritual chant? And those… are those claw marks?

“We wanted to flesh out the mountain biome more,” said Iron Gate Studio co-founder Henrik Törnqvist. “The goal was to give Mountains a challenge closely similar to what players can find in the swamps and Black Forest, as well as a chance to face new wild enemies. You may have noticed a few fenrings stalking the peaks at night, but have you ever considered where they go at dawn?

The latest content update comes on the heels of Valheim’s first anniversary of its Early Access launch, and shortly after the release of the Hearth & Home update which saw an array of new crafting recipes and cooking, building parts, and resources added throughout the five biomes that Valheim currently offers. Since Hearth & Home, Iron Gate Studio has been working on several updates featuring new enemies, armor and cosmetic additions, as well as a Steam Deck port which was recently announced in the game’s first anniversary Steam post.

Mistlands, the sixth biome that’s next on the developer’s agenda, will give Vikings new enemies to face, new resources to acquire, and a final boss to face as the world of Valheim continues to grow through Early Access.

“Valheim is at its core a game where every resource, decision and item you find can be used for something and fits into the bigger picture,” added Albert Säfström, CEO of Coffee Stain Publishing. “Hearth & Home and the Mountain Update have expanded the options and experiences players can encounter and interact with. We’re excited to see what players will find deep in the mountains.
