Winter is coming, storm warning until Wednesday

Happy Saturday, Central Oregon!

Winter seems to have finally arrived, just at the beginning of spring. Other storm systems are building up and the eastern slopes of the Cascades (Sisters, La Pine, Sunriver, Mt. Bachelor, Black Butte Ranch, Camp Sherman) are under a winter storm warning through Wednesday.

There is a chance that we will see some snowfall Saturday evening in the mountains, and most signs point to snowfall starting around midnight and continuing throughout the day.

Snow accumulations will be lighter on Sunday than Monday, which is when this system will merge with another coming from the south carrying much more moisture. Monday could see up to 2 to 4 inches of snow in Redmond with the aggressive models showing 18 to 24 new inches of snow at Mt. Bachelor in 48 hours Monday night.

As you might expect temperatures for the next 5 days will be no higher than 50 degrees, mostly in the mid 40s, and we even have a 40% chance of snow Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening. Saturday is the first day we are supposed to cross 50 degrees again in Redmond.
