Ithe light at Storm Arwenarrival in the UK, many Britons wonder if they are eligible to receive Winer fuel allowance payments that will help them pay their heating bills this winter.
People born on or before September 26, 1955 will be eligible to receive the payments, as long as you have lived in the UK for at least one day during the qualifying week between September 20 and September 26, 2021.
If you haven’t lived in the UK during that week, you may still be eligible if you’ve lived in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) and have family in the UK or have a connection “Real and sufficient” with the United Kingdom.
How much will you receive?
The amount you receive will depend on your life situation and will be tax free so as not to affect other benefits or payments.
The maximum payout you can receive is 300 pounds, while the minimum is 100 pounds.
When will you receive it?
The Winter fuel allowance was introduced in 1997 and has been in use since then, with payments typically expected in November or December.
However, this year the government said the money could arrive in people’s accounts as late as January.
If you have not received anything by January 14, 2022, you should contact the Winter fuel payment center.
How to receive it?
If you are already eligible for the Winter fuel allowance and have already received the payment, you will automatically receive it again.
If, however, you have never received the allowance before, you can request payment by telephone.
To do this, you must call 800 731 0160 or, if you live abroad, +44 (0) 191 218 7777. In the call, it is important to have your Social Security number, your contact details bank and your BIC and IBAN numbers (if abroad) at hand.
