We dug through the archives to find these 22 fantastic photos from the 1930s to the late 2000s
We scoured the archives to find these fascinating throwback photos from Grimsby’s Wellowgate which is sure to evoke nostalgic memories for many.
The photos date back to the late 1930s where they show the men who worked at Wellow Brewery to train spotters at Wellowgate walking through two decades later. There were a number of store facelifts during this period, as well as some Restaurants which have closed.

We also get a number of aerial views of Wellowgate over the years, including a gloomy look at central Grimsby on a cold, snowy day in the early sixties.
Another undated photo gives an aerial view of the center of Grimsby in the days before Freshney Square. St James’s Church (now Grimsby Minster) is at the bottom left of the picture and Bethlehem Street runs along the bottom. At the top of the photo is Alexandra Road and the former shopping district of Riverhead, which later became Freshney Place.
