CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – We started seeing clear skies around much of the state today, which is a nice change from yesterday with much of the severe thunderstorm activity remaining in Colorado and a lot more snowfall remaining in the northwestern states for now. A little cloud cover is starting to pass from the northwest as this cold front begins to move towards our state. Expect isolated showers tonight with the majority of these starting to occur early afternoon tomorrow with widespread rain showers. By then, expect most of the snow to stick to the mountains until temperatures drop overnight Thursday. This widespread snowfall will continue through Friday and bring only a few inches to many major cities.
Before this frontal system passes, expect very strong wind gusts from the west. The gusts themselves will reach over 50 mph and cause a number of partial closures and delays on major highways and freeways across the state. As Friday approaches, the wind will shift from the north causing temperatures to drop sharply in both highs and lows. Until then, expect warmer temperatures tonight with a mix of 40 and 50 due to increased cloud cover.
For tomorrow’s maximum, this will vary depending on where you are in the state, as a cold front will already begin to create headwinds throughout the northwest corner. Expect a mix of 50s and 60s in the north and 70s and 80s in the south. As the chance of precipitation increases over the next few days, temperatures will drop before slowly warming towards the end of the weekend and early next week. Many northern cities are expected to see widespread rain showers and snow showers tomorrow, while southern cities will see this on Friday.
