Opening day is still scheduled for December 9, but with ongoing snowmaking, the mountain is officially closed to travel and uphill activities.

The mountain finally received 48 hours of cold weather to create a good base for snowmaking to be possible.

“The ideal snowfall is around 20 degrees or less to really get a good snowpack,” said Troy Hawks, director of marketing and sales at Sunlight. “That’s kind of what we’re looking for and generally don’t want it to be too windy.”

In addition to artificial snow, Sunlight will offer new maps for cyclists to follow.

“We redid all of our trail maps,” Hawks said. “This replaces the five additional tracks that were added to East Ridge a few seasons ago.”

Sunlight has also updated a new digital trail map at the top of Primo Lift at the top of the mountain.

“Skiers and snowboarders will simply be able to look at a glance and see which trails are open or closed or have been groomed with an electronic digital trail map at the top of the mountain,” he said. “So another nice improvement.”
