RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Heavy snowfall and intense winds have left many Rapid City homeowners with a bit of a mess to clean up in their backyards.

The city has a few options for fallen tree branches and places to throw them.

Authorities are asking homeowners to drop off their yard waste at the Rapid City landfill in one of the 24/7 publicly accessible containers.

Another option would be to drop off the materials at one of the yard waste sites at Fitzgerald Stadium and North West Boulevard, but the city’s solid waste division expects those locations to fill up quickly.

Small tree branches can be grouped together and placed at the curb in disposable garden waste bags.

“We advise against the general not if he has a stray branch, a large branch or something like that, not to let go and to leave it at the curb because our teams will not pick them up. It is the owner’s responsibility to throw it away, dispose of it, and again that is why we offer the option of landfill and secondly the remote yard waste locations, ”said Darrell Shoemaker, Communications coordinator for the city of Rapid City. .

If a fallen branch blocks the road, contact the city to have it removed.

During this time, fallen limbs on the sidewalks are the responsibility of the owners.
