Simu Liu has faced many challenges in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but he’s never faced anything quite like the Canadian Rockies. In the Monday, August 1 episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, Liu learns to survive dangerously cold temperatures and snow with Bear Grylls. The actor and survival expert finds refuge in an exclusive clip for PopCulture.com.
In the scene, Grylls explains that he and Liu were soon to find an old tapper’s hut used by mountain climbers. Otherwise, they could be stuck outside as nighttime temperatures plummet to “deadly” levels. As they move through the trees, Liu says he’s already lost feeling in his toes.
“It’s really dangerous terrain here,” Liu told the camera after trudging through the snow. “The powder is huge. You really never know what you’re getting into. Sometimes it’s sold. Sometimes it gives way and before you know it you’re waist deep in snow.” Liu and Grylls also walk through mountains at high altitudes, which limits oxygen and makes walking more strenuous. “I’m just tired of doing everything,” Liu said.
Grylls guided Liu to the bottom of a valley, where they luckily found a cabin for the night. “It exists,” an excited Liu said as the booth appeared.
Liu’s episode of Run wild is the second for the new Challenge spin off. The first episode shown Thor: Love and Thunder star Natalie Portman, who took a trip through the slot canyons of southern Utah with Grylls. He showed the Oscar-winning actor how he should use his underpants to filter water in a very rough scene.
This season also stars Florence Pugh, who joins Grylls for a walk through the rainforests of Costa Rica. Ashton Kutcher and Grylls visit the jungles of Costa Rica. Anthony Anderson will visit the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Rob Riggle will take on the challenges of the Great Basin desert. New episodes of Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge airs Mondays on National Geographic at 9 p.m. ET. The series will join Disney+ on August 10.
Liu played the lead role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and should star in a sequel. He recently finished filming Greta Gerwig Barbie film. He also plays in A true lovea romantic drama based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
