NJ places to pick your own apples and pumpkins this fall

Nothing says fall more than carving pumpkins and drinking apple cider. Although the end of summer is near, there is plenty to look forward to once the leaves start to change color.

New Jersey offers many farms to meet your apple and pumpkin picking needs. Some even offer wagon rides and farm animals to enhance your experience.

Here are 18 to visit this season.

Alstede Farms

Location: 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester, New Jersey

From Golden Delicious to MacIntosh, Alstede Farms offers a variety of over 50 apples to choose from. Pumpkin picking is also offered with squash and winter squash open for picking in the plots as well. To do one of these activities, admission costs $15.99 per person, but to do both, it goes up to $23.99. Different activities such as hay rides and visiting farm animals are included in the price.

Battleview Orchards

Location: 91 Wemrock Road, Freehold, NJ

Apple picking begins August 27 at Battleview Orchards. Over 15 different kinds of apples are included throughout the season. Pumpkin picking begins September 24 and continues until October 30. The farm is open every day except Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Melick Town Farm

Location: 472 County Road 513, Califon, NJ

Although Califon Orchards at Melick’s Town Farm won’t open until September 10, the wait is worth it. With over 25,000 different apple trees and a variety of 35 different apples to choose from, there’s something for everyone. Pumpkin picking and wagon rides also offered. The farm will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Long meadows farm

Location: 561 Hope Blairstown Road, Blairstown, NJ

Open only Saturdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Longmeadow Farms offers 15 different types of apples for $1.99 a pound. Pumpkin picking is also available throughout October.

Von Thun Farms

Location: 519 Ridge Road, South Brunswick, NJ and 438 Route 57 West, Washington Township, NJ

With two locations in southern Brunswick and Washington Township, Von Thun Farms offers double the fun. Apple and pumpkin picking requires a $3 entry fee. The farm provides three different sized bags for people to purchase. Pumpkins are $0.69 a pound with a $2.50 minimum.

Orchards of Terhune

Location: 330 Cold Ground Road, Princeton, NJ

Open every day at 9 a.m., the Vergers de Terhune offer 35 varieties of apples and 15 varieties of pumpkins. Customers planning to pick apples must purchase a pick bag at the entrance. Prices vary by size. The farm also has animals for the kids to see and pedal tractors for the kids to drive.

Demarest Farms

Location: 244 Wierimus Road, Hillsdale, NJ

Reservations must be made to take advantage of apple or pumpkin picking at Demarest Farms. Hour-and-a-half time slots run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. General admission is $7 for both activities. Both offer petting zoos, while Pumpkin Picking offers wagon rides and Apple Picking offers a playground.

Farm and orchards of Giamarese

Location: 155 Fresh Ponds Road, East Brunswick, NJ

Only $2 admission required to pick your own apples and pumpkins at Giamarese Farm & Orchards. Open 6 days a week during the fall harvest season, the farm offers many pumpkins and 26 different types of apples to choose from. Wagon rides, corn mazes, and pony rides are also available for a fee.

Johnson’s Corner Farm

Location: 133 Church Road, Medor, NJ

$5 wagon rides take you through the apple orchard and pumpkin patch of Johnson’s Corner Farm. Apple picking takes place from September 12 to October 14, while pumpkin picking takes place from September 12 to October 31. Apples are $1.99 per pound and pumpkins are $0.79 per pound.

Eastmont Orchards

Location: 181 County Road 537 East, Colts Neck, NJ

Although you cannot pick pumpkins at Les Vergers d’Eastmont, 21 types of apples are available to choose from. No entry fee is required on weekdays, but weekends require $2. Apples are charged by the pound. Cart rides at $5 also offered during the fall season.

Beef farms

Location: 83 Emleys Hill Road, Cream Ridge, NJ

Pumpkins, squash, and squash are available at Bullock Farms, but no apples. The farm is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 6-acre corn maze and two smaller mazes are also available to all.

Duffield Farm and Market

Location: 280 Chapel Heights Road, Sewell, NJ

Apple and pumpkin picking is available at the Duffield Farm and Market. During the fall season, the farm offers family activities every Saturday, including wagon rides. The farm currently operates Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Wightman Farms

Location: 1111 Mount Kemble Avenue, Morristown, NJ

Although there isn’t much information about the apple and pumpkin picking seasons yet, the farm is open seven days a week with varying hours.

High Sun Orchard

Location: 19 Canfield Ave, Randolph, NJ

Sun High Orchard is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No information is yet available for apple and pumpkin picking for the 2022 season.

U-pick at Conklin Farm

Location: River Road and Vreeland Ave, Montville, NJ

No entrance fee is required at Conklin Farm U-Pick for pumpkin picking. Painted pumpkins, Indian corn and more are also available for purchase. No apple picking available.

Snyder’s Farm

Location: 586 S. Middlebush Rd, Somerset, NJ

Only pumpkin picking is available at Snyder’s Farm. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Hillview Farms

Location: 223 Meyersville Road, Gillette, NJ

Although not much information is provided yet, Hillview Farms offers both apple and pumpkin picking for the fall season. The farm operates daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
