Mountain High Ski Resort, Wrightwood gets first big snowfall of the season

WRIGHTWOOD (KABC) – Snow started to fall in Wrightwood on Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m very excited about the snow. We haven’t had one for a long time,” said Terafaie McDowell, an employee of Pharmacy Boardshop.

Heavy rains and winds of up to 25 miles per hour hit the area earlier today.

“We weren’t expecting that much wind. Our Christmas decorations are all over the yard,” said Christopher Hirschman, a Wrightwood resident.

Locals were thrilled to hit the slopes, but high winds shut down Mountain High Ski Resort.

During the day, snowboarders and skiers expected more snow and the wind to calm down. They camped out at local bars like the Grizzly Cafe.

“We’re going to wait here and check out all the stores around,” said Crystal Hall, who was from New Hampshire.

But the snow started to fall later in the afternoon. Wrightwood’s Pharmacy Boardshop is expecting a large crowd of tenants on Wednesday.

“On busy days we like over 80 rentals a day. It depends on the amount of snow, like tomorrow it will be very crowded,” McDowell said.

Additionally, Mountain High Ski Resort announced on Twitter that it will be open on Wednesday.
