Buccaneers end season 39-4
The Blinn College volleyball team placed eighth in the NJCAA Division I volleyball championship on Saturday after losing to Snow College, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24, at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kan.
Blinn ended his season with an overall record of 39-4 which included an incredible 38-game winning streak. It was the team’s second consecutive appearance at a national tournament.
Blinn’s sophomore class graduated with a career 66-7 record and two top-10 finishes at the domestic tournament.
“While the season did not end as we had hoped, it was truly a blessing to spend it with this team,” said Blinn head coach Terry Gamble.
Sophomore Charde Van Zandt led the Buccaneers with a record 11 kills. Sophomore Savannah Sebek and rookie Lina Ellila distributed 15 and 11 assists, respectively. From the service line, sophomores Emily Smajstria and Lixai Perez scored an ace each.
Defensively, sophomore Guilia Hortelan recorded 18 recoveries, which were also a game high. At net, sophomores Jayde Shelton and Reagan Casey each scored five assists while their sophomore Ashley Taylor added four. Casey also had a solo block.
Blinn’s excellent 2021 season featured a Region XIV regular season championship, Region XIV tournament championship, and a No.1 seed in the domestic tournament. The Buccaneers have also won 38 straight games from August 21 to November 18.
