Valentine’s Day is about a month away and if you really want to surprise your sweetheart this year, it’s time to start planning!
FYI, my husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. We could take chocolate for each other and order a heart-shaped pizza, but that’s about it. Celebrating Valentine’s Day big might not be our thing, but a little romance every now and then certainly is!
If a lovely getaway with a romantic accompaniment is exactly what you and your sweetheart need right now, onlyinyourstate.com suggested 7 Illinois cities that are perfect for a comfortable vacation, but here are the three that intrigue me the most. Plus they’re all a short drive from Rockford … double win!
Woodstock, Illinois – With its historic atmosphere, its charming town square and its nice B & Bs where to stay like Le Cerisier Inn Bed and Breakfasts featured in the movie “Groundhog Day”. Woodstock embodies a warm and romantic atmosphere that everyone will love.
Galena, Illinois – This city is my husband and I am the place of choice for a beautiful weekend getaway. You can enjoy a good meal, go shopping, go on horse-drawn carriage rides any time of the year, and there is always something fun to do in their city center. (We are big fans of the Galena Brewing Company). Plus, they have a ton of romantic B&B options, but you’d better book your stay ASAP!
Oglesby, Illinois – If your idea of the perfect winter getaway is some quality time outdoors, why not take the trip to one of Illinois’ largest state parks, Starved Rock State Park? I don’t know about you, but take a leisurely hike in a winter wonderland, then relax by a fire in Starved Rock Lodge just scream romance.
