19 places you can take a COVID test in Birmingham now

With the new Omicron Covid strain spreading like wildfire across the United States, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a Covid test. Wondering where you can now take a Covid test in Birmingham? We dug and here’s what we found.

1. UAB Medicine Emergency Care

If you’re heading out of town for New Years and looking for a place to get tested quickly, UAB is the place to go. Since December 21, UAB Medicine Urgent Care has announced that it is offering Covid-19 testing to anyone aged 18 and over who needs to be tested before traveling. You can only receive this test if you do not have any symptoms of Covid-19.

They use PCR / NAAT molecular laboratory test which is the most commonly used and accepted test method. However, you should check with your travel destination what type of testing is required for entry.

For those showing symptoms, call 205-975-1881 for screening. If you meet the selection criteria, you will receive an appointment to be tested at their Drive-Thru test site.

2. CVS pharmacy

CVS currently offers Drive-Thru PCR / NAAT Covid-19 testing by appointment only. They don’t offer quick tests. The PCR / NAAT takes 1 to 2 days to receive the results, so be sure to make an appointment in advance so you have your results in time for your trip.

There are eight CVS locations in and around Birmingham with testing currently available this week. Head to the CVS site to find your nearest location and make an appointment.

4. Hoover Emergency Care Clinic

5. Urgent care Gardendale

The tests here are available to anyone with or without symptoms and are drive-thru testing only. Call (205) 285-8252 for more information.

6. Urgent care for your child

Your Kid’s Urgent Care offers curbside testing for adults and children of all ages, with or without symptoms. Call (205) 769-6800 for more information.

7. Middle Creek Medical Center, PC

To receive a test from this location, you must be a current patient and meet clinical criteria. You can be tested for your vehicle or at the office. Call (205) 477-3737 to learn more and make an appointment.

8. Acton Rapid Care Clinic

Acton Quick Care Clinic offers Covid testing to anyone two years of age and older, regardless of symptoms or exposure. Call (205) 273-9424 for a telephone consultation and to make an appointment. Healthcare workers and first responders should call (205) 525-6133 to make an appointment.

9. Ross Bridge Medical Center

Ross Bridge Medical Center performs rapid COVID-19 antigen and PCR tests, as well as antibody tests, for pediatric and adult patients. Rapid antigenic tests are offered daily on a first come, first served basis. Call (205) 92COVID to schedule a phone consultation and make an appointment.

10. Alabama Regional Medical Services

The Covid-19 tests at the Alabama Regional Medical Services are by appointment tests for people with symptoms and some high-risk people without symptoms. This is a Drive-Thru test site.

Trussville Urgent Care offers drive-thru testing only available to anyone with or without symptoms.

12. Bessemer Rapid Care Clinic

The Bessemer Quick Care Clinic offers Covid testing to anyone two years of age and older, regardless of symptoms or exposure. All you need to do is complete a telemedicine screening through their HIPAA compliant app, Spruce.

14. Cahaba Medical Care – West End Clinic

The tests here are available by appointment, or by car or without an appointment, for people with or without symptoms. Call (205) 679-6325 to make an appointment.

At American Family Care, you can also receive the rapid test, PCR test, and antibody blood test. Arrive early as Covid tests can run out later in the day.

Urgent Care for Children has several locations around Birmingham. They have curbside testing available for children and adults of all ages, with or without symptoms.

18. Total care 280

At Total Care 280, you can get a Covid PCR test by going to their Drive-Thru. No appointment is necessary.

19. Dr. Celeste

Dr Celeste is a family doctor and offers Covid-19 PCR tests as well as rapid tests and blood tests for antibodies. Schedule your curbside appointment now on their website.

The clinic’s opening hours may differ on New Year’s Eve. Call or check online with your clinic to confirm vacation times if you plan to get tested on December 31st.
